How to choose a pitcher or dispenser

Pitchers hold a few cups and fit the refrigerator door; countertop dispensers hold more and stay on the counter. Both use a replaceable cartridge and need nothing more than a tap to fill from. This collection is from Crystal Quest, Waterdrop and The Water Machine, with cartridges of 3 to 7 stages.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants filtered water with no setup: a dorm room, an office, a rental, or a second filter for the fridge. It is also the simplest first step before deciding on a plumbed-in system.

What to compare

  • Capacity in cups or gallons, and whether it fits your fridge door.
  • Cartridge type and its rated life in gallons or months, listed on each product page.
  • Fill speed: gravity cartridges take a few minutes to filter a full reservoir.
  • Replacement cartridges, carried in the Parts Store by SKU.

Ships direct from the manufacturer.

Common questions

The product page lists the rated life in gallons or months for each cartridge. Replacements are in the Parts Store.

Pitchers are made for treated municipal water. On a private well, start with a water test and look at the well water systems.
